How to keep your hanging baskets blooming...
WHEN it comes to feeding hanging baskets and containers there is not
enough feed in compost – so a weekly feed is better.
Dead-heading bedding and perennials is essential to allow new growth and
new flowers to bloom.
Pruning is also essential, especially shrubs and climbers.
Always prune shrubs back when they have finished flowering to allow new
growth through summer.
Always cut back hard. So, if a shrub is four to five feet high, cut it
back to three feet.
Climbers also need pruning when they finish flowering.
A good example is wisteria.
We get so many customers in spring saying they have foliage but no
flowers.
On every branch you need to cut back five stems, then in October, just
before they lose their leaves, cut back another three.
That will result in plenty of flowers in spring and foliage will come
later.
